Busted PS3?

My PS3 slim can still boot up, but will not load any discs, gives me error 8001050F when attempting to log into PSN and before I tried a full format of the hard drive, any installed applications/games would cause it to freeze, requiring I manually turn off the console. The console's internet browser, however, works just fine.

I tried cleaning the dust, full format, restoring the database and power-cycling the home router.

Give it to me, is my PS3 gone to console heaven?

Try connecting the PS3 straight to your cable modem or DSL(which ever you use) with a cable. Let me know if you can connect to the PSN that way. Almost sounds like your router is blocking the connection to PSN since your browser works just fine.

Walmart has brand new 500GB Super Slims for $149. that's worth it just for the controller,blu-ray and hard drive.

If you've already reformatted and lost everything, and it still won't work I would try a different hdd. You hdd maybe on the way out and corrupting data. That would be my guess if it always does it no matter the source or media. If you have an extra laptop drive laying around just try it out. The PS3 will probably ask you to also insert a USB drive with update data as well which you could look up and familiarize yourself with.
