Base Claude Giroux Review

Other

Not everyone who plays HUT has unlimited funds so I wanted to review a base card in my collection that I think is worth getting.

Skating 7.5/10 Giroux is not one of the fastest cards on the market and his straight out speed won't blow you away but he can move when hustle is initiated. He has more a shifty speed and is able to gain just enough space with his speed to snipe. The game can be measured in inches and this is where he shines for me.

Shooting 9/10 Giroux can snipe and pick corners for a fraction of what some of the other high end cards cost. I find his wrister and slapper to both be good at finding the net. Although not an overpowering shot like Burns I seem to be able to score from distance and at close range.

Hands 9/10 Giroux has some moves when called upon, and can compete in tight areas. I wouldn't say he is the best at this category and doesn't compare to a player like Kane, but for his price I have no complaints. What I like about him is his general competency. Again not the best in any category, but is also not a feather that can be knocked off the puck like Gaudreau.

Checking 6.5/10 Giroux is on the smaller size so not a powerhouse in this regard but he holds his own in battles. For a smaller player I find he has more than enough strength.

Defense 7/10 Giroux is by no means a top end defensive specialist but he is not a liability. His primary role (for me anyway) is offensive, but he is able to use his shiftiness to hep in the defensive zone. Giroux doesn't take many penalties so this is also a plus on the defensive end. Giroux also does fairly well on the face-off dot so this helps with puck possession.

Overall Giroux is a great base card that will likely always hold a spot on my team. He can be the clutch player in many different situations and competes for first star against some of my higher end cards on a regular basis (for a fraction of the cost).
