POTN Versteeg Reveiw
So decided I should tell you all about the wonderful surprise that is POTN Versteeg.
The team he is on https://hutdb.net/17/builder/100011
For those that are lazy- line is Steeger- Manny (92)- Mov McDavid witht the synergies of WW, OJ, DR, FM, CG, SB, and TW activated.
Stats are 19 GP, 11 G, 13 A for 24 pts at +11
Side note- These stats are amazing for a player on my team, as I usually find similarities between the Devil's playstyle and my own.
Skating: 8.25/10
Let this be said outright, Steeger is not going to blow past anyone flat out. Catch the opposing team in a bad change or flat footed, maybe you get a partial breakaway. For my team, I have consistently found him as the late man into the offensive zone, always in position for a quick one-timer of the rush. Put him on a line with someone with speed and let that player handle the rushes. That being said, Versteeg can get you an entry despite being hit consistently, it just won't be absolutely amazing.
Hands: 8.75/10
Again, not Versteeg's strongest aspect of his game. That being said though, I'm not the player to deke you out of your jock strap. A windmill or toe drag is the most I usually do, and Steeger is more than serviceable for my needs when it comes to his hands. Trying the moves like McDavid or Crosby though, you'll find that Versteeg should stick to his power game. As for his hands when it comes to deflections though, Versteeg is money. Throwing it on net, on target, high, or wide, with nearby allows for a scoring chance. He, along with 92 Manny, have brought deflections into my goal-scoring repertoire.
Shooting: 9.5/10
This is his strongest area by far. Despite have 93 WWA and 94 WWP, Versteeg has solidified himself as my secondary main goal-scorer, behind only MOV McDavid with WW. Whether it be is ability to snipe off the rush or his knack for scoring in goal-mouth messes, Versteeg's ingame shooting stats seem much higher than his card lets on.
Defense: 9.0/10
His second strongest area behind his shooting, mainly due to his ability to always be in position. Whether it be on the forecheck of in his own zone, Versteeg throws the body extremely well, in addition to having a solid poke check. With this consistent defensive prowess, I consistently find Versteeg makes his own chances and his own rushes with his stick and body alone.
X-Factor: 9.0/10
Something not covered by stats is the fact that Versteeg has been by far the luckiest player I have player with in HUT. Whether it be goalie-mess-ups or just lucky rebounds, a shot Versteeg takes has eyes beyond just finding the corner. His power moves also consistently score goals without bringing about goaltender interference. The 2 points in the cyclegame synergy he brings is also extremely convenient for me.
Overall: 9.0/10
Keep in mind, this is my opinion of the card not as a 90 overall, but instead compared to heroes, MOV's, and other major cards. If I were to compare him to strictly to other 90's, I'd take Steeger in a heartbeat over bases like Stamkos, Malkin, and Tavares. He is just seemingly the right mix of a power forward and finesse for me. Icing on the cake is that I loved the chipiness and grind that he brought to the third line to aid the Hawks in 2010.
