Getting into 5th ed. Have a question before I do

I was reading over the quick rules to get a feel for the system. From what i read it really seems like Reaction is a god stat. Higher reaction nets you higher initiative, which can get you multiple turns per combat round, and is also used for defensive value rolls. Is there something i misread or is it really that good? If it is, has it been a problem for anyone?
