How much formula are you feeding your 12 month old?
Our pediatrician, as sweet as she is, seems to be from another planet. When my daughter was 4 months old I was told that she was getting "too many calories from formula" despite her being at a perfectly normal weight, and that I needed to be pushing solids harder. This was weird to me because babies should really get all of their calories from formula/breast milk during the first year. Food before 1 is just for fun, right? Anyway, I digress.
At her 9 month appointment, our pedi told me that I should start weaning my daughter off of bottles and formula so that she is off of both by her first birthday. Hahaha. Yeah. No. No way. My babe does great with sippy cups and those miracle cups, and I understand weaning her from the bottle. But I wasn't going to take her completely off of formula by the time she was 12 months.
So now my daughter is a year old. She self-feeds very well, and I'm starting to introduce soy milk, but I'm a little lost on how much milk and how much formula she should be having at this age. Right now she only drinks about 4oz of soy milk and she has 3 8oz bottles of formula. Asking our pedi isn't really an option since according to her I shouldn't be giving her any formula. And I'm unfortunately stuck with her as a pediatrician because my daughter is on Medicaid and this pedi is the only option they've given us.
So how much formula is your 12 month old having? What have you been told by your pediatrician?
