New returning player lf advice

So im started playing again after many years on the harbinger server. i have a level 31 sith assassin currently and two boosts,

so a couple things i dont understand, what is the lightside darkside meter across the screen mean?

Is there any point to playing through the story missions besides story purposes? i have two boosts available to me, is there lots to do at end game?
