What affects the outcomes of Ally missions?

When you pick an ally to send on a mission (eg Scavenge, Craft Potions, Bounty Hunt, Recruit Heroes), does the ally you pick have any bearing on the outcome of the mission? eg higher Rarity of the ally card, level of the ally player, etc?
