Getting a bayonet unstuck from storage mounting

Got my 91/30 in today, caked in cosmoline as was expected, bayonet is firmly stuck to the barrel in a. Backwards storage position and wont come off. Is it a simple problem of not giving it enough force or should I try cleaning off the cosmo around it first? Bayonet is matching.
