High School to MBA: I Need Your Help.
I have to admit, I have anxiety about posting this here.
It’s an assumption, but I figure that one might say "kid, why are you looking so far into the future when an MBA won't affect your life for another 8-10 years.”
I honestly agree with that. Applying for an MBA is not going to affect me for years. However, I truly believe in planning and executing to achieve my goals. In my opinion, it starts now with forming ideas, executing them, expanding them, and using them as a backbone to succeed my personal ambition. My core value.
My career interests are in entrepreneurship and investment banking. I strongly believe my path requires an MBA. I recently have been accepted into Hofstra University and plan on majoring in a BBA with a minor in possibly Finance or Economics. I am looking plan ahead and figure out what I can do in these next 4 years to heighten my possible candidacy for any of the M7's or any other prestigious top 10-15 MBA programs.
After speaking with a lot of people, I’ve come to the conclusion that Hofstra University would slim my chances to be accepted into these schools (Poets & Quants data shows Hofstra doesn’t qualify as a feeder school; near to none) As most agree, an MBA from a low-tier school would be a waste of time and money (excluding some exceptions.) My plan, after 1 or 2 years in Hofstra, is to try transferring to schools like NYU (not excluding other prestigious undergrad schools), and continue my undergrad for another 2 years at that school, which would heighten (but not determine) my M7 candidacy.
My high school GPA wasn't the best (because of lack of freshman HS planning) and NYU requires my ACT/SAT and my high school transcript. My GPA at my high school was a 3.4, SAT was 1080, and ACT 24. I plan on retaking the SAT and ACT up until my transfer. Also, because of going through the "acceptance" phase of being gay, I’ve had anxiety throughout high school and that was the biggest reason for such shit grades. Demographics wise (If it matters much), I'm an Italian/Jewish white male.
Would 2 Hofstra years holding a 3.7+/4.0 GPA, having humanitarian events I founded (ie. an annual Opiate Awareness & Fundraising Event on LIU Post's campus I have already created), clubs I've founded/presided (HS founder/president of Business Club), entrepreneurial activities/startups I've created (ie. I have an e-commerce store that has generated $50,000 in revenue and have a YouTube vlog with 20,000 subscribers), career-based summer internships (ie. Hofstra offers semester in China to work at a bank - international affairs + finance + culture) and everything else I'll do be enough to get me into NYU or some other top-tier school for my sophomore or junior undergrad?
Reasons for my favoring of NYU: I really like NYU's IB job placements and think it'll definitely be a power statement for internships in Manhattan and be another key factor to lead into something like an M7. Just as a note: I’m not excluding this post to NYU, I just want to move up from Hofstra. In both schools, I look to focus heavily on summer internships that hopefully I can stick with so my career doesn't look very "jumpy".
Thank you so much for reading! Call me crazy, but I know how I work; these are the questions I need to figure out and any help or critique goes a long way. Again, thank you so much. :)
