A question from a prospective cuber.

I'm planning on getting into cubing (my first cube gets delivered tomorrow), and I've been doing a little research and noticed there are separate "beginner" methods and "speed" methods. Wouldn't I be better off just starting out with CFOP? If I'm going to dedicate myself, wouldn't learning efficient methods be a better use of brain space than learning easy ones? Also, and tips or advice for a new cuber? Thanks! :)
