Intense shoulder burning on side lateral raises? Anyone experienced this?
Been doing DB lateral raises for a long time but recently I upped the weight for a week and a half from 25lbs each hand to 30lbs. I figured it was probably time that I try increasing the weight on them since I could do over 20 reps with 25lbs but I didn't want to go too heavy. I know I could do 40lbs each hand at this point but I always thought that if I increased weight on this exercise I would limit myself to 30lbs out of safety.
Felt alright at first but then on my 4th-5th workout I did one set & noticed my right shoulder was feeling the burn slightly more than usual. Wasn't much so after a 2.5min rest I did my 2nd set going to 16 reps. When I put the weight down my shoulder was on fire in a bad way. Wasn't the good kind of burning, not that I train for that anyways but it was an intense burning pain in the top of the muscle/through the middle that lasted for 10-15min after I had put the weights down. It seemed like no matter how I rested my arm most positions just made the burning worse. The only position I found that made it stop burning was laying back on the bench, putting my arm stretched out laid against the bench above my head like I was doing a laying He-Man pose on the bench.
That was a week and a half ago and since then I haven't done any lateral raises to give my shoulder a break from them but have kept doing my rowing, chin-ups, shrugs, bench press, rear delt flyes, curls, tricep push downs, chest flyes & dips without problem.
However yesterday I attempted a set of lateral raises at 25lbs each hand instead of 30lbs, did a set of 18 reps and after that the burning was still there slightly like before so I didn't do another set.
I don't get it though. I can do every other exercise just fine and even do them with a high amount of volume without the problem happening but if I do lateral raises my shoulder is on fire.
Questions:
Any reason why I can do every other lift without this happening? Will my current exercises still hit that muscle well enough while I'm laying off the lateral raises? Anyone else had this?
I'm hoping that it just sorts it'self out after a month since I can do every other exercise just fine. If it doesn't I'll end up asking my PT about it when I go for an unrelated problem on the 25th.
