Lost an old friend, Thinking of you guys.

I just got news that a friend of mine from high school committed suicide today. We used to be close, but I haven't really seen her in 5 years. She was still close to my best friend, so I got updates on her life occasionally.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I can't stop thinking about how hard her mother made her life and thinking about the people struggling here.

My friend, I will call her Rebecca. Rebecca's mom was definitely a narcissist. She named her daughter after herself (including middle name) and used that to her advantage. In college, Rebecca's mom would cash her student loan checks. She stole her daughter's identity and ruined her credit. Rebecca didn't find out until she tried to move away from her mother to start over and couldn't find a place to rent to her, due to the ruined credit. Then, when Rebecca returned to the house that her dead father had left her (her parents were divorced) in her hometown, she found out her mother had snuck in and been living there the whole time she was trying to escape her.

Rebecca had other problems relating to substance abuse. I don't know her well enough to pin all the blame on her mother. But the first thing my best friend and I agreed on is that her mother would definitely make the service about her. My best friend is super brave and I'm hoping she'll stand up for Rebecca if needed.
