Work based insurance questions

I am currently on an unpaid leave from work that will last a full pay-period (the only downside to weekly paychecks). I have my insurance payments set up to be deducted from my checks. Will I have to make this payment manually or will the insurance company take it out of future checks or something else completely?

Also, i am thinking about maybe considering leaving my job. what happens to my coverage if I do? how does COBRA work, or does it even apply?
