Second trip to Japan - need ideas for locations (fewer temples)

Currently planning our second trip to Japan, our first trip was in Tokyo for a week. We are looking forward to returning but my wife is not interested in seeing lots of temples (outside of Kyoto and maybe one other stop)

We're late 20s and our interests are (in order of importance):

• Anything food related (markets, restaurants, etc.)
• Shopping
• Parks and gardens
• Cool monuments / attractions

We're not big into the nightlife. Budget is pretty flexible. We're planning our trip for the first two weeks of October and could use any advice! I currently have Tokyo, Kyoto, Hakone and maybe Nara / Osaka.
