Can I come off Ativan with Xanax?

I know I'm not on shit compared to some of you but I get nasty withdrawals (think brain zaps, hallucinations, extreme panic attacks, etc) when I stop. They usually start rolling in lightly about 12-18 hours after then crest shortly after till I'm screwed. Beyond the point but you see my fear.

Though my fault, I forgot to refill and shrink hasn't called it in yet, about to run out over the weekend. So I'm on 1mg and basically have been for about 20 yrs but lately been taking a lot more as needed (double-triple). Anyway, if it comes down to it I have Xanax stockpiled. Will this help me float by without nasty withdrawals or am I screwed?

Haven't taken Xan in like 10yrs, friend passed me these in the last shortage but didn't need so have no idea.
