I would really recommend giving 'Live by Night' a miss.

Ben Affleck is obviously a talented director but this is a bad misfire. Watching this there is a sense that there's semi decent 90 min film hidden within but as it stands the film is a bit of a disaster.

The story is all over the place. I can't remember a more disconjointed plot. The protagonists motivations change several times without warning or explanation.

Side characters pop up for 1 to 2 scenes. Give a heartfelt monologue (that you really can't care about because you've only just met them) and disappear.

Characters make stupid decisions time and again that are clearly only made to further the plot.

There's numerous times when you're left thinking 'really? You expect me to believe that?'

I could go on and on but I won't. The movie is really poor and best avoided.

I always try to see the best in films but I can't see anyone walking out of this one happy with having spent 2 hours watching it.
