Pe'a(s) and Tatua's?

Aloha!

Im a guy living in the UK with slight Polynesian heritage on my fathers side from his father going back (American Somoan), and have in the last year or so fell in love with the culture and plan to visit soon. I was just wondering what the status quo / culture was towards non-Polynesians getting Traditional Pe'a(s) or Tatua's? I understand the original social implication of Tatau, but I adore the art style and would love to get a piece done, traditionally by stick. I just wanted to check there wasn't a taboo beforehand, or if it would come under cultural appropriation, as I have not grown up in the culture or had a rite of passage. I've tried looking up as much as I can on the subject but wanted to talk to someone people in the culture about it first.

A hui hou kākou!
