Is Symmetra brokenly overpowered now or not?

News & Discussion

I can't decide, and I haven't seen any big threads about it, so I'm curious what people are thinking. (For reference, my experience with playing against her is in the low-mid gold level)

My instinct is: Yes. Very much yes. Ultimately I think she's able to be far to powerful at low skill levels. At high skill levels she's just amazingly powerful.

She's able to be a valid and VERY powerful at both dealing and shielding damage with a full half her kit deployed elsewhere, (Her ult and one of her abilities not on the front lines) making her a hero and a half when she's actually in her turret nest.

Ultimately I'd like to see her power level stay about the same, but see the skill floor raised. It should be tough to be that strong. I think forcing her to use her turrets as part of her kit, and make the slow-down effect of them an important part of her ability to deal such intense damage, might help to level her out a bit more. Perhaps something like one of the following:

  • Slower speed while locked on with main weapon. Like DVa, if she couldn't move at full speed while firing at people could escape from her withering microwave of death.
  • Shorter range for primary gun. (Same ratio, both shorter, or possibly shorten her unlock range.)
  • Much longer build-up time for the weapon charge. (Her weapon flicking back and forth between your entire team couldn't murder everyone trying to stand on the payload in such short order.)
  • Weapon shouldn't lock on, or should only follow a short distance off of center. (Force people to have to actually aim and stay aimed at their targets.)

So what's the verdict these days? Am I just a terrible player and she's not actually that bad to deal with? :-)
