I desperately want to learn to code, has someone here done it with these methods?

PLS DONT PROMOTE ANY WEBSITE LIKE CODEACADEMY,TREEHOUSE OR ANYTING LIKE THAT

Im a teen boy who desperately wants to learn how to code and program. I am especially interested in to making games. My biggest idols are my dad (hes is a C# chief software architect ) and Markus "Notch" Persson the guy who created Minecraft. They are both self taught programmers and both learned code by copying code from a programming magazine and then messing around with the code. Im am very curious to learn coding this way(copying a code from somewhere by typing it or messing around with the code) because it sounds so much fun comparing to these modern techniques like going to a website like code academy or treehouse wich are promoted fkn every where.

So is here some more people who have learned to code or program this way? And is there especially made website to help doing this
