Vancouver! My wife and I are coming to visit your beautiful city for our Anniversary this year. What shouldn't I miss?
We're coming out late summer/early fall. I've done my research and am familiar with lots of the touristy stuff. I know all about that crazy suspension bridge and whale watching tours. I expect to spend a good amount of time at Granville Island Market and so on.
What I'd like to know is what are some other fun things that aren't on all the "Visit Vancouver" websites? What neighborhoods should I spend a few hours just walking around (and which should I avoid?).
When we travel we tend to like to experience a city's real culture, by which I mean tourist sites can be fun and feel free to suggest some you think I may have missed, and "living like a local" going to cute coffee bars and the like is nice too, but there's a fun place in the middle. That's what I'm hunting for. Where do you take your family when they come to visit? The ones who have seen all the big flashy tourist attractions already. Something you still find fun and impressive about your city that you love showing off that maybe lacks the clean commercial polish of a package harbor cruise.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: As a regular on my own hometown's (very much a tourist town) subreddit I appreciate that these kinds of threads pop up often. I promise you I've read your side bar and searched through posts. I am not looking for your restaurant or brewery or hotel suggestions. I'm not interested in any information that appears on the front page of google when you search "Visit Vancouver". I'm interested in finding out something a little simpler, more intimate to your city. Something only Vancouver has. Something you share with friends who have seen all the basics a thousand times.
