Matchmaker's time of the month?

So there's something i've been noticing, and it's quite strange, so i wonder if it's just me.

Recently i've been playing heroes and won some and lost some like most of us...except that on some days, it seems that the matchmaker throws a hissyfit and just places me against way better skilled opponents seemingly at random. Then other days it seems the matches are more fairly put together.

And another thing i noticed, is that the more i lose, the skilled my opponents are...is it supposed to work like that..?
