Thoughts/advice for an extreme tidal world?
I've been thinking about a world whose tides are extreme--like super extreme. Probably because of gravitational pull of another large planet or moon, most likely orbiting the same planet in a particular co-existent path. Every so often, the tides draw out, allowing the world's inhabitants to descend from their high mountain/island/butte/mesa/canyontop homes and into the now-fertile valleys and plains below. Huge areas become suddenly available for farming and travel, and wildlife flourishes. For several months (idk not sure about the duration), one section of the world is like this, until the tides shift and rush back into the valleys, washing away all that was there and returning civilizations to their state of isolation. Lots of fishing societies here.
Conflicts arise from sea monsters and marauders when the tide is high, and maybe some crazy geological stuff. Super tides every 1000 years resulting in tsunamis and massive flooding, crust flexing that spreads massive earthquakes or volcanoes or heats the sea creating gigantic storms that are brutal for small fishing societies etc.
Thoughts? Thanks, u/galacticrab
