Power Steering Pump & Valve Cover Gasket on an E90
Hello fellow aficionados, I just got a call from my trusty mechanic that my wife's 2008 335i has a leaky power steering pump and some contamination in the reservoir. He also mentioned that I have a tiny leak from the valve cover gasket that occasionally drips onto the manifold causing the smoke we smell from time to time. I'm a reasonably adept mechanic on domestics, but have never done any work under the hood of the BMW. Is replacing the PS pump & reservoir difficult or time consuming? What about replacing the valve cover gasket? It looks like that would be a bear to get to. Are any specialized tools required? I was quoted $2200 for the PS work, which is a fair chunk of change for an 8 year old car. Thanks!
