Is this game just meant for casual playing? I dont understand
So I have played video games competitively off and on for around 6-7 years now, and I've enjoyed the mobile MOBA setting of this game. This is my first MOBA ever, and I've been playing around a month now it seems. This month has been quite the rollercoaster it seems full of unnecessary drama, and little kids/adults acting like little kids being toxic over nothing. I admire the mechanics of the game, and the potential for scalability, but in my experience so far whether i'm playing above my game with vainglorious people or at my tier (tier 7 gold) solo queue or team, people just don't seem to understand competitive playing. I have teammates who get all in a frenzy because they think nobody is listening to them, when their mic is muted/lagging (RIP), or people who play with us, dominate, and then disappear away because they didn't play a good game (when we won) or weren't positioning right and complained that they died b/c they have a squishy character in the middle. Now I'm far beyond an expert from this game, why i've only played a month and while i've enjoyed it, I really question: is this game meant for competitive play? Not to say I can't play a game casually, but my time is of course not going to be spent as tirelessly trying to practice for nothing. Or maybe i'm not looking in the right places, i've spent hours on the forums scouring to find players with a similar mindset, and am riddled with lower tier players begging for a chance to play, when they don't understand the elo potential opportunity cost. Playing competitively of course isn't my entire life, it's a completely separate little virtual world of mine i indulge in and understand pretty well, but I don't want to do anything as drastic as playing video games full time like you would see in call of duty(game i played for 4-5 years or so competitively as well). My philosophy is that video games are a nice hobby to play after a day at work, when you're single and without kids especially up till your later-ish twenties(not to judge older people), and that the notion that it will ever become a full time sport is just ludacris to me, which is why i dont waste my time playing LoL, Cod, or anything like that in hopes of becoming the big shot pro anymore. Problem is, is that people spend their highschool, college, whatever years playing video games and they come out of it playing a game on a potential 6 figure(maybe) salary for a few years and then missing college and such for more potential. Needless to say, people that spend 24 hours constant playing a video game are wasting their time, but I've probably wasted my time enjoying a new game a time or two.
To conclude this lovely essay/rant, I circle back to my original question: are mobile games/MOBA's the new competitive scene? I mean who wants to spend tireless hours in a basement in front of a computer/console to compete for some million/couple million dollar prize pool. I see this game and can see the potential scalability to become the "next big thing" over silly games like clash of clans or mobile games that are completely pay to win. The thing that just surprises me so much is that for a mobile game, the community seems pretty toxic over simple mistakes or creating endless drama over not being able to play a certain role or playing the game the way they like to play.
