Hero Concept: Melee based Offense & Native American themed
Someone had posed a question earlier on this subreddit about “could a Native American hero work?” I had put some thought into it, and a slow day at work led to me snowball the daydream into a fleshed out kit that I feel is quite unique within Overwatch. The names of abilities are inspired from Warcraft as well, which could be a nod to anyone who recognizes them but fit perfectly in the context of the hero. I didn’t bother with any lore or names, as I was solely thinking about mechanics and gameplay.
Also, numbers can be tweaked so what I’ve done here is my guess best towards balance. But think of the overall feel of his kit and the niche he fills.
Would need to be tankier than a normal offensive hero due to close range nature, similar to reaper he’d likely have 250 or 275 health.
Right mouse/Alternate fire: Tomahawk Boomerang
- Throws out his left hand tomahawk, which flies out then returns. Total airtime is roughly 3 seconds
- Fairly slow moving projectile
- Deals low damage to all enemies it passes through 40 damage, can hit an enemy up to twice (once thrown, once on return)
- If the projectile hits a wall or is eaten (D.va), it fades away then re-appears in the hero’s hand after the 3 seconds has elapsed.
- Heavily discourages playing at a range as it’s low damage, easily dodgeable and adversely affects his normal attack
Left Click/Basic Attack: Tomahawk Melee
- Primary method of attacking, penalized if ranged attack is in the air.
- If both axes are available, will swing in a flurry for medium damage (70 per swing) every half second or so. (140 damage per second normally)
- If only one axe is available (because the other is in the air/eaten), attack speed is halved
First Ability/E: Entangling roots
- Would travel quickly along the ground in a straight line foward for a medium distance
- If the vines contacted an enemy, they would erupt from the ground and snare (like Junkrat’s trap) all enemies in a small circle
- Negligible damage over the duration (10 or 20), primarily just the root to hold them for 3 seconds
- Possibly could also allow the hero to run along the roots, so if they travelled up a wall he’d be able to use his E to temporarily allow him to wall climb at the cost of it’s cooldown
Secondary ability/Shift: Ghost Wolf
- No cast time / instant transformation.
- Primary means of survival, moving into and escaping battle
- Increase his run speed by a significant amount (30 to 40%)
- Can only perform a basic hero melee (25 same as Mercy/Tracer/anyone)
Ultimate: Spirit Link
- Connects all allies healthpool and splits damage amongst them equally for 6 to 8 seconds
- Functionally similar to Lucios, it affects allies in a large AoE around him but requires line of sight
- Any damage taken by one hero is equally split among all allies affected (I.E if a McCree was attacking you, and you had applied the ult to 4 other allies, each player would take 15 damage instead of 75 to yourself.)
- There's no damage reduction involved at all. 3 spirit linked allies would still take the exact same amount of damage from an AoE attack.
- The strength of this is that most single target damage is negated, making it impossible for an enemy team for focus down one target. Spirit Link would hard counter Tactical Visor for instance, since the damage would be split between the entire team (and easily healed).
- This works well with the rest of his kit, since he’d be able to sprint towards the back line, and if enemies turn to peel him, they would not be able to kill him (easily) and allow a great opening for his team to follow.
- It's a great utility ult for an offensive based hero, and could be fantastic in the right circumstances (I think?).
If you made it this far, I'd love to hear criticism or comments.
