Hot spot questions

Hey guys,

I'm a C-GC so I never really cared about anything related to shots, i only dunk or very rarely layup.

I'm curious what is a hot spot(i understand by name but i wonder if it would ever help my char) and also how to get it. I only understood it's obtainable via career.

Can a hotspot be under the basket? :)
Will it help dunks and layups or only jump shots?
