Are solo female travelers safe in Capetown?

I am considering spending a week or so there in FEB. I know someone who is from there and he offered to take me around but i'd feel guilty about it. I am contemplating traveling around alone for the most part but can not drive .. and I'm a pretty small person. I am wondering if other women can vouch for the safeness of Capetown and south africa.
