[General] Submissions Sought

Malevolent Soap is an independent e-journal of poetry and fiction.

We're based in Melbourne, Australia, but our issues feature writing from around the planet. We publish in March and September.

Anything goes, but we're particularly partial to work that explores intersections of 'high' and 'low' culture and challenges traditional designations of cultural value. Whether it invokes Nicolas Cage as muse or bemoans Rick Deckard's overconsumption of MSG in verse, we're interested.

Our debut issue is slated for release on September 1. Submissions are open until July 1.

Please only submit writing that hasn't previously been published. Simultaneous submissions are fine as long as we're notified immediately in the event of acceptance elsewhere.

Should your work be accepted, it'll be edited in collaboration with you. Should it be declined, you'll receive some feedback.

We pay $20 AUD per piece. Our coffers are very shallow, but we believe that writers should be paid for their work.

In exchange for this payment, you grant us exclusive first electronic rights to publish your writing. Two months after its date of publication, all rights revert to you. You may then publish it in other electronic spaces as long as we're appropriately credited as its original point of issue. Print rights remain with you at all times.
