Farming XP with Idiot Savant: Speech Check Issue Possible

There are countless glitches that you can use to hit level 100 in near term...but this ruins the game for me. I have found a happy medium in using Idiot Savant rank 2 (x5 to XP) and reloading when turning in quests until it kicks in.

I have successfully done it a few times already, but just spent over an hour trying to get it to workout for me after "Human Error" (Covenant Mission).

The guy who i turn the reward into has three speech checks you can hit for greater reward, then immediately the quest is turned in. Obviously i wanted to get all three, then trigger the bonus on the mission XP. I saved directly before the mission sound triggered and it resulted in needed to complete the conversation...but the last speech check was not longer red but blue. so i had to end the conversation but the system had already flagged that check as successful.

On more than one occassion, the last speech check got the idiot savant bonus (about 150 xp) but i was trying to trigger the 400xp bonus to get multiplied.

Usually i have to play with it for 10-15 minute, reloading to get success (my intelligence is 8) but this time it exceeded an hour! I did mix it up, trying different saves made during the conversation, but none seemed to let me cash in...and all of them involved having already passed atleast one speech check.

I decided to load an earlier save and try farming it again, just this time i would simply pass the speech checks all together.

Just turn it in and see if that works....worked almost immediately.

Maybe it was mere concidence, maybe the speech checks screw up idiot savant...i dont know really. I just wrote this for those people who like to do the same as me before turning in a major mission with huge XP.

If it isn't working for you, try starting the conversation over and try a vanilla agreement. if i spent an hour and didn't get the xp bonus at the end...i woulda been pissed.

If anyone knows anything else please let me know!

So the fact that you couldn't basically cheat ruined the game?

This is so unnecessary and a waste of time. My new survival mode playthrough character is already level 80 and I have never cheesed the game for exp. I just got The Castle and chased down Kellog. Haven't cleared like the bottom 40% of tge map yet. Just explore and play the game and you'll be 120 or higher before moving on to the DLC content.

So much this.

Especially with 8 Int, you've got a 4% chance for it to happen. Save scumming for 4% is wasting so much time compared to just playing, spam crafting, doing a run through the Glowing Sea, or taking rank 3 and setting up a cage farm.

Whats funny to me is the idea that spending 15 minutes "cheesing" to level up faster is a bigger waste of time than leveling up 6 points at a time.

Also, i dunno who kellog is or what the castle is

You want to level up fast, dominate the game, taking a big steaming crap on survival mode and laugh as you trivialize everything? Here you go:

Early in the game, IS save scumming can get you ahead of the curve for sure, but after about level 50 it becomes less and less worth it for anything but the largest payout quests. I did some math on this, and basically assuming 12% IS "proc rate" for a 1 INT character, you will get your bonus on the quest within 6 tries about half the time, and within 12 tries about 80% of the time. 5% of the time it will take you 23 tries. The higher your INT level, the worse your odds get.

I'm reasonably certain that your experience with speech checks was a coincidence.

Interesting

Btw, I held off a while in IS rank 3, and let me tell you it is amazing (with low INT). Exp for kills in Survival is doubled, so combine that with some good timing (a proc at start of a fight), and it could easily be a full level in about a minute. Increase your odds by killing weaker enemies first and stronger (high xp) enemies last/immediately after it triggers. I got 3 level ups in the Battle of Bunker Hill at around level 65 (I was friendly with all factions but it doesn't affect your standing if you kill generic faction units out in the game world)

Im gonna dodge IS 3...my character isn't exactly built like a destroyer of worlds...im not sure i wanna trade in the 5x for a kill spree opportunity...

That's fair enough, I have a melee build going that just wrecks literally everything. Just for the record though, you don't lose the 5x, it's just two separate rolls for the effect so you could get the 5x, the 3x, or trigger both on the same kill

To each their own, but i don't find that particular type of save scumming to be efficient enough to help. Consider how much more experience you would have if you'd spent that time out killing things. Yes, it's nice to see a huge roll up of XP show up all at once. Feels like you hit a jackpot on a slot machine (and is addictive for the same reasons that people throw their money into slot machines) but it is not efficient with regard to time at all.

Eh, it seems pretty efficent. The more i have played inhave noticed that you can kinda game the result
