Trying to think of a silly way to teach Zurvan Ex pick-up-group players where to go for 1st Soar mechanics.

Why would you stack tanks instead of pairing each with a healer tho

This.

And I think the reason most macros put tanks at south and north is because it's the most risky position to eat soar. IMO S and N are only variable spots and tanks can eat one soar with AOE, no biggie. Healers/DPS on the other hand die from soar+AOE.

Tanks can eat 2 soars and a divebomb, and that's without Tank Stance or cooldowns.

Stacking tanks together is normally to give the DPS more space for adjusting.

Ok. I tried that. It works great really. Thanks. So this way both healers take no dmg and healer with prey can just stay where he/she is.

Alright, I feel the need to clarify some things since almost everyone posting a few posters is are missing the point and downvoting each other.

9/10 of my last Zurv Ex PUGs have not been able to skip first Soar, and have been crippled by it the rest of the attempt. The one that DID skip it, only managed it once in a dozen attempts, with 5 DPS and people popping food and some of them were better geared. A lot of people are inexperienced/undergeared currently. To say "Git gud" or whatever is not a viable solution for PUGs getting an early Soar. I would have to ragequit almost ever "learning party" in the datacenter PF, or wait a month for everyone to gear up. One Early Soar is VERY common right now - not everyone raided Creator Savage the past few months and has i265+ item level average. Many groups trying to practice the fight are getting pasted by this mechanic, which is arguably one of the tougher ones to figure out BECAUSE it's been skipped by mostly overgeared groups and never gets mentioned.

The point of the post is to help give groups a visual aid/general idea of what some of your positions can be for easing past Soar so that they can focus on learning other mechanics like adds, halberd, or tethers, and get on with learning the fight without wiping 90 seconds in. The design of the diagram is such that no matter the rotation of the pattern, your group members will not be turned around and lose their sense of direction when Soar inevitably does happen.

To someone who said you can swap a healer and a tank on that diagram - absolutely, if the healer is comfortable handling getting bombed THEN preyed, then sure, that is perfectly viable. In many of my PUGs, the healers aren't comfortable doing this and we generally had more success having the healer not get bombed at all by sharing spots with the tank. But to each their own. Having tanks eat a Soar gives them a debuff does it not? The bombs as far as I recall do not give such a debuff and might be LESS of a problem. Also, tanks eating Soar only creates "extra room" on the "Old Man" pattern - what if you get a Gymnast pattern? Doesn't help much. But again - to each their own.

I appreciate those who are posting valuable feedback. I wish you all good fortune in the farms to come.

Edit: Clarifications

That's strange. I've been in 3 learning groups and when we didn't skip for 2 or 3 runs we kicked the lowest DPS. The next run, we would skip and then do it consistently. I guess I just got lucky in my parties but it really doesn't require that much DPS to skip. I've seen it skipped when I was the only one in the party over 2k dps.

i think making soar skip-able is a big mistake for zurvan :c Would have more longevity it you have to learn soar

Whenever groups I'm in are getting Soar, I just direct people to this helpful tip! http://puu.sh/trt4N/f8331ceeaa.jpg

You mean over gear it?

It's possible to skip with 7-man with a 2-2-3 party setup, the min ilvl is 250 and it's a dummy during first phase, there's no reason not to be able to skip it other than being bad.

Or people behind on gear could be trying to get their weapon to be doing slightly less suboptimally, wow, what a concept
