Anyone have experience with this pressure mat or have recommendations for one?

I've been kicking around the idea of putting a pressure mat (connected to a n open/close sensor) under my mattress to automate some nightly routines. Does anyone have any experience with this Vive pressure mat?

Being only $15, I'm tempted to try it, but the deep sale also scares me away just slightly.

Just got this in, it's essentially just two conductive sheets separated by foam. When untouched, it registers around 400M ohms (which was probably my resistance, holding the needles), and as soon as slight pressure is put on it, it shorts. Seems like it'd be easy enough to connect it to a digital IO in a voltage divider, or like you said, to the terminals of an open close sensor.

Edit: Confirmed! I just ripped off the rj-11 jack, connected the red and black wires to one terminal of an open/close sensor and the green and yellow wires to the other, and it works! Now I have a way for my house to know I got out of bed in the morning.

How are you planning to connect it to an open/close sensor??

Some open/close sensors have terminals specifically for connecting external devices

Nice so you have any examples that have that? Any z-way enables ones that u know of??

I know for sure the ecolink door/window sensor has the contact terminals inside (currently using two of them).

I bought on of these for my mailbox so I would know when the mail was delivered and when it was picked up.

I snipped the ball bearing switch off of it and soldered a mercury switch inline where the ball bearing was. You could do the same I'm sure. Just snip the ball switch off and solder the pressure sensor onto it.

Is it necessary to do this for the mailbox? I thought the tilt sensor as is would just work out of the box?

I just ordered one, so I'll try to remember to post back here this weekend if I find a way to utilize it.

Most likely, the pad is acting as a variable resistor, which means you should be able to use a voltage divider to get an analog reading from it and send that data back to the HA software of your choosing.

For the price, I might just do the same. Did you get the impression that this is a hard mat or a flexible mat?

It looks flexible, but I really won't know until it shows up.

Did you happen to get this mat in? The more I look at it, I'm trying to figure out if it can be attached to a contact sensor. Really interested to hear your feedback on it. 😊

It arrived on Saturday, but I haven't picked it up from my Apartment office yet. I'll play around with it tonight and let you know.

I was looking into doing something like this myself. Saw a few tutorials for diy pressure sensors super cheap and was gonna use another one of these

to send the signals to HA
