Sleeper Player Review: PoTG Dumba
Card overall :86
Synergy: TT,DR,HH (all active)
Background: Replaced big buff in order to activate dr and hh in addition to tt, and haven't looked back. I payed 11k. He may be a bit more now but not by much. Other active team synergies: tw,cg,b. Played on third pair with totw parayko for 10 games. 2 goals and 2 assist (including a clutch game winner). +3 as a bottom pair d on a slightly above .500 team.
Skating: 8/10 : Not a speed demon, but can get up the ice on the rush and back on d just fine. Very agile and smooth for a budget defenseman.
Hands: 7.5/10: Crisp passes and good pass reception. Can perform simple dekes haven't tried anything crazy and don't think you should either.
Shooting: 7.5/10: surprised I scored 2 goals with him in 10 games as I usually don't score a ton with d men besides macinnis. Both the slapper and writer found the net once. Both have a chance to find the bet but neither are money. Take it if it's there but do not force a shot with dumba.
Checking: 5.5/10: he can dislodge most Players off the puck but he can really only blow up small players like gaudreau even with hh active. Having hh active is probably a must if you want to do any checking with dumba
Defense 8/10: with DR active he is A very solid player in his own end. Great stick work and pokes on moving players. Probably will not win puck battles win tied up with larger stronger players however. Despite what is name and picture might suggest he is very aware of what's going on around him and seems to be in the right place to make plays.
Overall: feels about like an 88 ovr card, best comparison is shattenkirk. For a small defenseman he is still very well rounded and smooth. If you need his tt synergy and are able to light them all up he is definitely worth the small amount of coin.
