Need build advice for sG13 i5-6600K

I will be building my first mini-ITX machine in about a week once my case arrives. I purchased the Silverstone SG13 white mesh case.

My parts list is listed below, but I wanted to make a few notes about my component choices

  • I need a recommendation for a CPU cooler. I have read that 120mm AIO aren't that good, but at the same time they help with airflow. Since I will only have an M.2 drive I think I can fit a thicker 120mm radiator, but my PSU is 155mm + space for connectors. I'm down for either air or AIO water cooling, just don't want to go too high, $120 CAD maximum I guess.

  • My plan was to get a low profile CPU cooler, exhaust heat from the CPU into PSU which exhausts hot air. Front fan is intake.

  • Everything listed below has been already purchased. This build contains hardware from my previous builds (2012 and 2015), thus some components are outdated (HD6770).

  • I don't care about HDD/SSD. I am using my Mushkin Chronos SSD in the meantime, but in the future I will go with an M.2 drive. Until then I can just tape the SSD to wherever in the case.

  • As a result of above, my PSU is full ATX and is slightly longer (155mm).

  • The only components which can/will be changed are: HD6770 to RX480, 140mm fan to 120mm, SSD to M.2

120mm AIO cooler may not be as good as some big block air cooler, but since SG13 cannot fit one, 120mm or 140mm water cooler is (most likely) the best solution.

Note: unless you go extreme overclocking, 6600k with moderate overclock (4.5Ghz?) should be easily handled by 120mm water cooler. It's skylake/kabylake, CPU cooler isn't that hard to work with anymore.

*Though I think their performance is fine, I did experienced pump problem with my H60, changed back to air cooling because I rarely need overclock mine.

Switch to an SFX PSU, and get yourself a big shuriken 2.

I currently have almost the same setup, the Asus Z170i and 6600k in an sg13, only difference I have a Gigabyte 1070itx and an SFX PSU.

I'm currently using a Cryorig C7 with a Cryorig XF140 (140mm) case fan. With a slight overclock and normal workload (browsing videos etc) it hovers around 30-35. After 15 mins of Prime95 I top out around 90-91. High, but below throttle temp. I have NEVER seen a load like this outside of stability testing.

The C7 will work with an ATX power supply. To be honest, before putting everything in the SG13 I bench tested with no case and had around the same temps. I don't think the restriction from the PSU will change very much.
