[Fallout 4] A Coursers Perspective, Part One: Reclamation

Welcome back to a new series! I've gone for a different writing style. Instead of the Raiders reactive personality, the Courser is a cold and stoic person, used to looking into the face of madness. I tried to keep to as close as I can for the Coursers speech patterns, feel free to tell me how you think I did.

You hunt who we tell you to hunt, you kill who we tell you to kill. If we want a Settlement picked over for parts, you will comply. Welcome back to the Insuite, Z2-74 "

RUNTIME - DATE: NOVEMBER 23RD 2287 -'DAY ONE'

Those were my first memories. People I instinctively knew. Do you know what it's like being reset or shut down? Imagine everything you were, gone in fourteen seconds. But this time, you feel each and every memory slipping away, every emotion, every person you ever knew. Gone, in fourteen seconds.

The Director has set me on a task. One that requires my utmost discretion. The Prime Relative has been spotted around Diamond City. The Director wants me to confirm his suspicions; if possible, ascertain his hostilities towards my organisation.

The Prime Relative has been taking down Raider Gangs in the Commonwealth. That works towards the Director's goals. He has sent me to watch over the Prime Relative, observe his actions and report back.

CONTROL VARIABLES FROM DIRECTOR:

  1. UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, DO NOT MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PRIME RELATIVE

  1. DO NOT PROVIDE FIRE SUPPORT FOR THE PRIME RELATIVE

  1. OBSERVATION IS TO BE MAINTAINED AT A SAFE DISTANCE

Z2-74, in case this was not clear enough, you are to OBSERVE and WATCH for the PRIME RELATIVE. Dr Secord assures me that you are one of our best Coursers, do not disappoint me - Director [NAME ERASED]

That is my mission. Observe and watch. Now, I guess i'll see if the Prime Relative is as dangerous as he seems.

UPDATE: LOCAL TIME, 7.32AM - DAY 2

I've relayed out of the Institute. Other Coursers call this place "The Apt's". An Old World block of buildings, which serve as abodes to the vermin of the Commonwealth. Currently, there are fourteen Raiders in that building. Now that the Prime Relative has entered, he has lowered the overall vermin count to five.

He is a fearsome combatant, able to dispatch even the most battle hardened Raiders with ease. He will be a very dangerous opponent if he turns against us. He is usually seen wearing a Blue Vault Tec Jumpsuit with the numbers '111' stamped on the jumpsuits back. He also has been observed eating his fellow humans. If he wasn't a Human, he'd be a great Courser.

UPDATE: LOCAL TIME 12.00AM - 'DAY 3'

Unknown contact has run out of the apartment block. Unknown male Raider, he wields a laser Pistol. Possible recent trauma witnessed. Has the Prime Relative spared this Raider? I will watch over him with interest now. If he's been spared by the Prime Relative, he must be important to his plans. If this Raider is important to P.R's plans, then he needs to be protected to ensure future co-operation to the Directors cause.

The Raiders probability of survival is low (43.67%). He'll be lucky if someone loots his corpse. I might be able to pull a few strings and get a infiltrator unit to conscript him into the Gunners (his survival rate goes up to 67.98% if that happens. To ensure future cooperation and leverage to hold over the Prime Relative.

'DAY 4 PART 2' - LOCAL TIME 6.00AM

I delivered my report to the Director, who seemed more than happy to read about both the Raider and the Prime Relative. He seemed surprised that the Prime Relative has gotten this far.

Anyway, I need to get my standard four hour cycle of sleep.

Thought for the day - Compliance and order go hand in hand.

DAY 4 PART 3 - LOCAL TIME 10.00AM

After waking from my sleep cycle, I was told to report to the SRB. According to Dr Secord, there's a few units that have escaped. Z1-56, Z4-21, Z2-89 and Z5-55. According to intelligence gathered in the area, there passing by a farm. They are protected by Railroad assets.

I have trained for this occasion. I have run thousands of different combat simulations and I have accounted for all variables that can occur in this mission. There is good reason the Railroad fears Coursers.

RAILROAD - ENEMY FORCE ORGANISATION

5-6 Agents - Armed with Pipe Weaponry - Trained in the use of weaponry - Threat Level: Medium

1 Heavy - Armed with Gauss Rifle - Highly trained - Threat Level: High

4 Gen 3 Units - Unarmed - Threat Level: (Until Recall Codes are used) Low. (After R/C are used) Nil

INSTITUTE - CURRENT ASSETS DEPLOYED

20 Gen 2’s

30 Gen 1’s

1 Courser (me)

The relay to the farm went well. Resistance was pacified. The targets were sighted on time. I ordered for the teleportation to surrounded the group. It was partially successful. Most Units remained undamaged.

Then that Railroad Heavy would not go down. No matter how many laser shots the Gen 1’s and 2’s did. He was the lynchpin, the one keeping the Agents alive. However, he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Using the resources available, I reached a conclusion. The Heavy needed to be killed quickly, chucking myself into the fray while utalising the Gen 1’s and 2’s as a diveronry method, the remaning Agents bolted when they saw me.

However, the Heavy stood fast. But once I closed into close combat range, I did an off the books move. Using both my hands, I clamped down unto the sides of his head and applied all available pressure.

Think of an overripe Mutfruit exploding. Now add bits of brain, eye stalks and half of a jaw, you're now halfway there in visualising it all. Those Gen 3 Synths were scared. So to set them at ease, I described the reclamation processes they would go through in great detail. One of them threw up.

Anyway, after resetting all but the last one. She spoke to me defiantly. She said that “Self determination is NOT a malfunction”. As a way of showing my appreciation for her joke, I spoke her recall codes.

In the end, four units were recovered with minimal asset loss. It was a good day. Now, there asking me to do another asset recovery. This time, in a place called ‘Kendall Safehouse’.
