Base Benn Review

Team Advice

Quick Stats:

  • Played mostly (and currently) 3rd Line RW with M. Richards and 88 Kesler (also spent some time with Linden and Base Kessel)

  • OJ, 1T, CG, and T were activated for him

  • 120 G/97 A/217 P in 320 games (0.68 ppg)

  • Costs about 100k on PS4

Skating: 8.5/10

While Benn may not be the fastest card around,he is one of the stronger skaters in the game. His size combined with his strength and balance of 90 make him one of the tougher base cards in the game to check off balance. Benn's agility also lets him perform small moves to change his direction, not on the same level as guys like Wilson and Muller, but it is good nonetheless. His speed doesn't lack as well, until near the end of his shift, but other than that, this is a card that you can count on to hustle well the whole game.

Puck Skillz/Passing: 8/10

Benn's skills with the puck are very good, although not elite. He can make that fast, crisp, breakout pass with efficiency and can dangle cheating defenders out of the way, but his puck skills lack any sort of "game-breaking" factor to put it over the top of the pack. still, you won't need to worry about him flubbing a breakaway deke or making an awful giveaway most of the time.

Shooting: 9/10

Benn's shot is definitely the strongest asset of his game. His wrister and clapper pack a heavy punch, and it is accurate enough to allow him to snipe from most parts of offensive zone. However, his accuracy can falter a little in some games, but in general, Benn is a consistent, reliable shooter.

Physical: 8/10

Benn is a guy you can rely on to body others, and to hold his own as well. At 6'2 210, he has the ability to crush opponents with a mix of speed and strength, and his 87 body checking rating seems better than it looks. Outside of the giants like Byfuglien, Lindros, etc, Benn can find ways to use his physical strength to wear down opponents, and can play a heavy fore-checking style efficiently.

Defense: 8/10

Jamie Benn's stick checking is a definite strength of his, as he is able to poke the puck off the carrier well, and can stick lift on the backcheck fine also. His positioning is also stout, and he doesn't leave too much room for the opponents to set up, and he also doesn't really run into much penalty trouble at all. However, every now and then, he'll have a defensive blunder, making him not as consistent as I'd like him to be, but still, he can get the job done.

Is he worth it???

At his price of 100k, if you're looking for a stronger, well-balanced winger who can shoot the puck with some of the better cards in the game, Benn is the guy for you. With his strong forechecking, physically built, and offensively-gifted talents, he is a welcome addition to any line looking for a physical offensive force who can tire opponents and light them up as well.
