MOV Wheeler Review
Synergies active- TW, CG, OT, SB, TT (NP is NOT active for him)
Plays on the 3rd line with M Richards and Hero Sullivan (strategy I run- Behind the Net), also PK1
Skating- 8/10 (Reference- Bure/MOV Larkin/Sullivan) with S and TW is 10/10)... Wheels has got some wheels. His top speed with TW active is only 92, but he's pretty solid at getting up to speed quickly. I pot a decent amount of PPGs and get some breakaways with him, more than you'd expect.
Shooting- 7.5/10 (Ovi, 90 Perry, MOV Weber 10/10) I don't use Wheels as a finisher very much, but I don't look to force the play to any one player. Very strong shot, pretty accurate (wish I had a video from a crazy goal he scored the other night). Can get it through traffic; kinda like a powered-down ovi but doesn't have the best release. Great clapper though
Hands- 7/10 (99 Dats, Bure 10/10)He can pull off some nice dekes and is pretty hard to knock off the puck, but he's got decently average deke speed. Nothing special, but he does get a lot of deflections. I imagine this would be higher if I could light up NP. Good passing, doesn't thread the needle like you'd expect Datsyuk to, but he's a PWF. Finishes one timers on occasion, doesn't really whiff too often.
Checking- 9/10 (Shanny, MOV Weber, Hero Blake 10/10)- He's big, he's nasty. I've heard of some people using him on D, and I'd definitely see why. Drive the net protecting the puck with him; I use him like I would Shanny. He'll put an end to your players, and it helps that he's got speed
Defense- 9/10 (Lidstrom, Mov Weber 10/10) Dude's poke checks are usually on point, blocks a fair amount of shots, and just somehow is always in position. I understand why people would want him on the back end.
Overall-8.5/10- He's a poor man's Shanny (hands, checking,D) combined with ovi (Shot, skating). I'd highly recommend him, espeically since he's got excellent team synergies (TT, OT) on his card. If you can light up NP, I imagine he'd only get better. Since he upgraded with S2 I've definitely noticed him a bit more; use him anywhere in the lineup and on the PK. I don't think I'd pay more than 210 for him right now unless he's due for an upgrade, I'd say if he hits a 92 he'll be Ovi-lite (full disclosure- I LOVED his TOTY last year, and it definitely played like Ovi near the end for half the price)
