Winter on the Delaware

Why does the bird turn its neck?
A figure stood in the doorway and said, “I’m home.”
The air was a frazzled, haywire,
picnic laid out in the belly of the whale.
When the sky became unseasonably warm it burst open
and snow ripped in thin sheets across the body of the city,
and the city froze.
