thoughts upon getting lost in my girlfriend's eyes
thoughts upon getting lost in my girlfriend's eyes
in her dimpled irises
i notice a sundrop
frozen like an amber
drop of dew on
a blade of grass.
in her pitch black pupils i see
my own mortality,
but i am unafraid—
rather, i feel as if time
has numbed
the shimmering black
of such a styx
to a wintry crawl
and death is the snow
brushed away
by our silhouettes
making angels
out of the riverbank frost.
her eyes are a million shades
of an august field lingering
with the evanescent warmth
of july’s lament.
they are lined with gold
like the gilded leaves
of an ineluctable autumn.
they are the constellations
that have yet to be named
and the gods that have yet
to be worshipped
and the poetry
that i could never write.
