You can rebind your controller using Steam.

PSA

This was for the open beta. It doesn't work the same anymore, sorry.

TLDR: Use Big Picture mode in Steam.

Sorry if this is already known. A lot of people seem to be frustrated about the position of guardbreak on controllers and changing the .ini didn't work for me so I found a way to rebind using Steam. This quick guide is how I set it up for my Xbox One controller connected through USB.

1. Open Big Picture mode in Steam (click the controller icon at the top right of Steam).

2. Click the gear icon at the top right to open Settings.

3. Select Controller Settings.

4. Select Add a Steam Controller.

5. Check Xbox Configuration Support.

6. Disconnect and reconnect your controller (choose a name for the controller and save it when prompted).

7. Back out of Settings and go to Library, then find For Honor.

8. Select Manage Game.

9. Select Controller Configuration.

Note: I tried editing the default configuration and it didn't work for me. The controls seemed bound to the default and my custom at the same time (e.g., hitting one button would enter guard mode and quick chat) so we're going to make our own configuration.

10. Select Add Action Set and give it a name.

11. Click on a part of the controller and a window will open displaying a keyboard, a controller, and a bunch of other options. Just click what you want the button to do on the controller (e.g., I clicked the A button, the window opened, now I clicked the B button. The functionality of the B button is now bound to the physical A button.)

3. Once you're done making your custom config go back to the Default config, click on the Select button, select the Double Press tab, select Binding, click the green button to the right of the text entry box (the one where the symbol is 3 circles and 2 arrows), click the dropdown box and select your new config.

4. In-game double-tap the Select button and a box will appear at the bottom of the screen with the name of your custom config. You're now using your custom bindings.

If you want the default controls for navigating menus you can simply setup your custom config so double pressing Select will switch back to Default. To do this, click the Select button, choose Show Activators at the bottom, Add Activator, change Activation Type to Double Press, change Binding to switch to the Default layout in the same way that you set it up before.

Now you just double-tap select when you start a game to use your custom bindings and double-tap select when the game ends for easy menu navigation.

Here is the layout I'm using. Guardbreak on LT, dodge on LB.
