USCENTCOM Admiral Mark Fox has had a busy year. With the successful no fly zone over Iraq, the constituent units of Operation Eagle Strike have dispersed to various airbases across the Middle East to maintain a Rapid Response Capability specifically requested by the President, considering the situation inside Iran and Turkey. Security at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, has received a large boost, with the 39th Security Squadron receiving a contingent of Marine Force Recon - the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, deployed from 2nd Marine Division headquarters at MCB Camp Lejeune, NC, and consisting of over 1,500 elite Marine infantrymen.
In Kurdistan, the construction on McEnroe Airbase continues, with the 75th Regimental Special Troops Battalion (RSTB) providing modular security near the installation. In the mean time, the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing has utilized existing air facility space near Erbil, in order to begin providing security and training to Kurdish Air Force members. A small battery of MEADS, from the 334th TMD Brigade, as well as a battery of THAADs, compliments security there.
In Afghanistan, Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait, the force deployment remains static, with elements of the 380th, 386th, 438th, and 455th Air Expeditionary Wing providing on-demand crisis response. However, in the Persian Gulf, (CARSTRKGRU 1), led by the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), has transitioned back to PACOM's AOR in the Indian Ocean, leaving the USS Gerald Ford/CSG-12 and the USS Abraham Lincoln/CSG-10 on station near Bahrain Fleet Activities.

In cooperation with CENTCOM, Wolfpack AFRIA, AFRIB, and AFRIC will patrol the Arabian Sea as part of Task Force 60.

USEUCOM General Timothy Ray has received an ambitious order from the Secretary of Defense, requesting that SACEUR "play in the Russian backyard while nobody's home," in refernece to their overextended deployment to the Persian Gulf, and intended to test the response capability of an aging near-peer force. The following specific deployments have been authorized in response to the Iranian commitment, which is seen by many as a rebuff to years of Russian - American friendly tolerance, and notated as part of "continuing readiness efforts with NATO allies and partners":
-
The redeployment of 12 F-22Cs from the 95th Fighter Squadron, out of Tyndall AFB, Florida, to their former Air Policing Response Station, based in Baku Kala Air Base, Azerbaijan, with an additional 6 F-22A and 2 E-2Ds from Naples AFB, Italy.
-
The 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command, currently based in Kaiserslautern, Germany, has been given deployment orders to NATO-interoperable Ämari Air Base, Estonia. With four batteries of one MEAD/PAC-3 MSE interceptor, the deployment is designed to secure theater-level airspace over Estonia "in theory."
-
The U.S. 6th Fleet has authorized a Baltic Sea Patrol of the USS Abel P. Upshur (DDG-2007) and USS Dallas (DDG-2012) to the Port of Liepaja, Latvia, for a six month "routine deployment," including a pair of EV-22 AWACS tiltrotors in on-ship hanger space.
-

-

CVN-81 will remain on station for a period of six months, stopping at friendly ports in Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia as allowed.
-

Involved ships will be: USS Abel P. Upshur (DDG-2007), Monroe (DDG-89), Coates (DDG-112), Riley (FFG-91), and Leslie L.B. Knox (FFG-92), rotating for six months.
