Fiction book with a clever assassin who kills without fighting.

I am looking for a book of any genre (although preferably not sci-fi) where the protagonist is an assassin who does not kill though defeating his target in a fight or shooting them with great accuracy, but through clever tricks and plans such as poison or setting up something that looks like an accident.

EDIT: I would rather a book that is more dark and serious
