3rd Person View Explained

This is coming up more and more and instead of posting this in each thread here is a perfectly reasonable explanation the immersion fanatics can use to rationalize 3rd person view:

Light can be bent. It is bent by prisms and even ordinary water (look at the world through a water filled glass). But light is also bent by invisible forces such as gravitational fields. A black hole's gravitational pull is so strong it absorbs photons.

Well I don't know much about 30th century technology, but the inventors of that time seem very crafty. They've mastered holograms, lasers, energy fields (shields) and even faster than light travel (this alone requires immense energy). Clearly bending light at their will is well within the grasp of these future scientists. I don't see an issue with them putting light-bending emitters and corresponding receptors into each ship, allowing the pilot of that ship to get a 360 degree view around their ship.

As I mentioned before, now the only explanation you will need is why humans haven't used this technology to completely cloak individual ships from the visible spectrum :P
