Suggestions for a headset that works well with an existing surround sound setup.

I have the Astro A50s and enjoy them. However, I just finished building out a decent home theater setup with 11 audio channels. I know one of the biggest pain points with headsets and external audio sources is that the mic can be always on from all the background noise. My thought would be to get a single-ear headset that doesn't fully cover the ear and a unidirectional boom mic. Maybe something in the style of the original Xbox 360 mics? Or possibly something that's mute by default but enabled with a trigger of some sort? Any thoughts/suggestions?
