Citizenship status and SSI

Hi fellow social workers, I'm a psych social worker that also provides intensive case management. Is there a way to check someone's citizenship/resident status? Given the current political situation, I don't want the wrong agency contacted and risk a clt being deported.
Also is one only eligible for SSI if they're a citizen? That has been my understanding but thought I'd inquire if there may be any exceptions.thanks!
