The pill and ring made my crazy and the IUD can't sit right so my doctor recommended the Depo shot. What should I know before taking the shot?

tl;dr: Doctor recommended Depo after IUD got displaced. What should I know before deciding to take it?

Hey r/Endo I just went to my general GYN after a visit with Dr. Seckin in NYC. I originally thought I would need to schedule the deep excision surgery with him since I do have endo and my symptoms were getting worse despite them getting briefly better after having an IUD inserted 8 months prior. What he learned from an MRI as well as ultrasound is that my uterus is sort of heart-shaped and thus not copacetic for an IUD. He recommended deep excision surgery and IUD replacement. I unfortunately cannot afford surgery at the moment so I opted instead to see my GYN to see what she could do. I also should mention that with the IUD, at least in the beginning before displacement, that it worked absolute wonders. 3 day periods, minimal cramps, and only one day of severe nausea were so much easier to handle than my usual 7-10 days, miss 1-3 days of work, puking the first day or two, and all of the other general shittiness that comes with this disease.

Frankly I'm frustrated as all hell because I thought maybe, just maybe, that the IUD would work for me. The lack of estrogen in this birth control was working so well for my endo (unlike the pill and ring) that my GYN recommended the Depo shot. I have seen A LOT about Depo but I'd like the most recent responses from people who have experiences positive, negative, and everywhere inbetween. My GYN also recommended against the implant since I engage in contact and combat sports.

Any advice about Depo would be really appreciated. I can stop by the pharmacy tonight and pick it up but I'd much rather be informed before I do.
