Newbie questions about how to travel.

I recently found out about WWOOF, and am very interested in trying it out, as I think it would be a great life experience in itself, and also allow me to practice my Japanese, which I already know a good bit of.

So, if I were to WWOOF, I would go to Japan. The problem is, I have pretty much zero experience traveling; I've never even been on an airplane, so I'm more worried about getting lost in the airport than having some bad farming experience.

So, Question 1. (with many miniquestions) is, in regards to getting to the farm, and traveling between farms - is this an easy process? Let's say I want to stay at 3 different farms. I touch down at the airport, as someone completely inexperienced with that type of thing, is it clear how to find buses and whatnot? Can you get a bus ticket on the spot, or do you need to order something? Is bus even the preferred way to travel between the Japanese farms? Would the host see about getting me to the next farm at all? eg. at least take me to a bus stop or something?

Question 2. (with many miniquestions) Revolves around scheduling - Do I get the plane ticket, or arrange the farm visits first? When you apply to WWOOF, do you choose the start and end dates of the visits? Do you sign up for all of the farms you want to visit before you leave, or can you be somewhat laissez faire about it; arrange one farm, go there, and then arrange the next while on the farm? I ask this as I worry about being late and whatnot, for the farms, or for the plane home.

Thanks for any help, I couldn't really find information on these things, so I hope I don't come off as too inept; This is just something I'd really like to do at some point and I'm very curious.
