Bungie, bring in a new weapon re-roll mechanic similar to The Division.

Discussion

One of the things that I liked about The Division was the ability to re-roll one perk on each item. I'd like to see something similar in an upcoming patch this year before Destiny 2 comes. Or, introduce this in Destiny 2 instead. Unlike the re-roll mechanic of the House of Wolves, what I want is to be able to re-roll just one perk on a weapon of our choice. This includes re-rolling sights and/or scopes as well.

The biggest drawback from the HoW re-roll mechanic was that it limited weapon diversity. I think re-rolling only one perk instead of all of the perks would stymie the lack of weapon diversity because the rest of the perks are still reliant on RNG. This allows guardians to continue grinding for more and better loot.

In addition to re-rolling just one perk, I think a weapon should be re-rolled only once. I thought about limiting the amount of re-rolls to three per weapon, but it would make things too convenient. Being limited to just one re-roll would highlight the "hit-or-miss" aspect of this mechanic. Knowing that we would have only one chance to make a weapon either better, the same or worse builds the anticipation and can lead to either excitement or despair. It's only about chance in the end, right?

These are my thoughts on the re-introduction of the weapon re-roll mechanic to Destiny. I'd like to know your thoughts on this. Is this a good idea? Can it be better? Or should the idea of weapon re-rolling be discarded altogether?

TL;DR: Bungie, let us re-roll one perk, just once, in hopes of making a weapon better.
