Are dopamine acting drugs always underwhelming?
Dopamine feels great, but it's fiendish, every dopamine acting drug leads to some kind of addiction, with dopamine you always want more - users of stimulants/depressants always want that harder hit. These are addictive drugs, because you're never fulfilled, it's pleasure rather than happiness.
Serotonin is what gives us actual happiness - rarely do you hear of a psychedelic addict, it's that feeling of being fulfilled, like life is complete.
The perfect drug for me is one that puts me in a state of contentment about life, where you can truly say "life gets no better than this", you don't want more because you've reached that point - it's heaven.
Have you found this to be your experience with dopamine acting drugs? You just can't get enough - it's like sex, you think you've had enough, but there's no such thing as enough, you end up developing a sex addiction, for me I'm never fulfilled. Only when you have real good sex you can genuinely say life is complete is when I'm fulfilled - it's that level of euphoria when you don't want to be any higher - it's contentment.
Dopamine driven consumerist societies simply aren't happy because they seek pleasure, not happiness. Happiness IMO comes from the basic things in life like enjoying the sun, I've had such good days where I didn't even want to be any higher, I was happy enough.
