Recommendations: Upgrade current hardware or replace equipment

Hi guys,

This is my first post here. I have been running an ESXi server on version 5.5 for some time now (Using a custom image as there were some drivers not pre-loaded).

I need more ram on my box (Currently at 32 GB), but I am not sure if I should just deal with what I have now and wait to invest in a new box in the near future, or upgrade.

I am currently running a Sabertooth X79 as my motherboard. -G Skill ripjaws 32 GB 1866Mhz PC3 14900 RAM (All 8 slots filled) -Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E Quad-Core 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 2011 130W -1 1TB 7200 RPM HDD for VM deployments -1 128GB SSD for ESXi hypervisor and patches (Mainly) -1 1TB LUN for VM images -450W PS, Modular -1TB Nvidia gaming card (Don't remember model. Just relevant to this explanation).

This device was originally made as a windows 7 gaming machine. Because I had a limited budget, I upgraded what I could, and it's worked out for the most part, but I'm really looking to get some bigger badder specs so I can plan to run almost all functions on it.

My buddy bought a UCS c200 for $250 on ebay and he got dual xeon processors and 192 GB RAM. I just feel the costs of upgrading my current build is not worth it not only because hardware made as server hardware explicitly seems to be cheaper than hardware advertised as gaming hw, usually if it's aged enough.

My only nitpicks to if I were to buy a new box would be these: -I really don't want a super deep rack mounted server. My rack is only a 12U skeletek -I prefer it be somewhat energy efficient. I don't know if this could be done, but I'm sure there is some hardware out there that is all about it.
