Nationwide recommend a friend [misc]

So nationwide have dropped their recommend a friend from 10 people to 5 per year. I have friends in the process of signing up, I'm assuming only 5 of these said friends will get the bonus? Also does anyone know if it resets the sign ups on the tax year?
